The Last Dinner in Singapore

Connection is at the heart of the Luce Scholars Program, among Scholars and with the communities they call home for the year. After five days of learning and bonding at Orientation in Singapore, the Scholars say goodbye and depart for their placements across Asia.

Exploring the Historical George Town, Penang, Malaysia

Understanding is a core value of the Luce Scholars Program, and many experiences are designed to deepen it. At the Mid-Year Gathering in Malaysia in December, 2024, Scholars toured George Town, recognized by UNESCO for its unique architectural and cultural landscape. Staff from George Town World Heritage Incorporated shared insights into the city’s rich, multicultural history, followed by a sampling of its celebrated culinary scene.

The Habitat Penang Hill

Immersion is a cornerstone of the Luce Scholars Program, encouraging deep engagement with place, people, and ideas. In Penang, Scholars explored Penang Hill with staff from the Habitat Foundation and later learned about environmental issues and policy from Wong Siew Lyn, journalist and co-founder of the Malaysian news site Macaranga.
