About Kevin
(updated 6/2015) Kevin Schell is spending his Luce year in Bangkok, working for the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, in the Thailand Ministry of Energy . His primary responsibility has been developing national renewable power generation targets for Thailand’s 2015 Alternative Energy Development Plan. He has also been working on the Energy Policy and Planning Office’s efforts to centralize its energy data sets and make these data sets publicly accessible.
Kevin graduated from Rice University in 2011 with a degree in mechanical engineering. While at Rice, Kevin spent much of his time outside of the classroom in the pool with the men’s water polo team, helping to coordinate committees at his residential college (Brown), and volunteering in Rice’s admissions office. Kevin also looked for every opportunity to demonstrate his enthusiasm for his school and regularly painted up for the Owls’ home football games. After graduating from Rice, Kevin joined McKinsey & Company’s Houston Office as a Business Analyst where he primarily worked with energy and industrial clients. During his time at McKinsey, he was involved with recruiting and training new classes of Business Analysts. After his tenure as a Business Analyst, Kevin moved to New York to join the Helmsley Charitable Trust, where he developed systems and metrics to help improve the Trust’s ability to effectively support its programs. Following his experience in Thailand, Kevin will be returning to New York to work with Unison Energy, a startup cogeneration developer, as their Manager of Pricing & Sales Analytics. In 2016, he will matriculate into MIT’s Leaders in Global Operations program to pursue a joint MBA and masters in mechanical engineering.
In his free time, Kevin likes running, listening to classic rock, and challenging Thailand’s spiciest food mano a mano. He is also an avid fan of light British automobiles and mediocre professional sports teams. Kevin is profoundly thankful for having a family of people who support and love him, even when his adventures lead him to the other side of the world.
