About Angel
Angel Ali Lopez is a first generation Indigenous Mexican-American born and raised in the small town of Wayne, Michigan. The son of hard working immigrants, Angel attributes his grit and optimism to the values of persistence and perseverance they instilled in him from a young age.
He is currently a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Public Policy Fellow placed within the Office of Senator Michael Bennet, where he works on energy and environmental issues. His prior placement at the American Petroleum Institute saw him explore supplier chain diversity in oil and gas, broadening his perspective on the challenges of the energy industry.
Angel’s passion for energy and the green energy transition emerged during his time at New York University, where he earned a degree in Public Policy and wrote his senior thesis on the environmental impacts of semiconductor production in New York.
A lifelong optimist and inherently curious person, Angel also spent his college years exploring opportunities with institutions dedicated to advancing the public good. This included being a Fellow at The Aspen Institute where he contributed to the development of a nonprofit tax file database after challenges caused by IRS budget cuts. At the Office of the New York Attorney General Letitia James, he also helped coordinate operations and scheduling during a high profile period.
Angel further honed his policy expertise as a legislative assistant at the League of Conservation Voters, where he worked on initiatives that supported Hispanic communities and environmental stewardship. This experience highlighted the need for greater collaboration on energy transition issues. After graduating, Angel returned to The Aspen Institute as part of the Ideas Festival team, contributing to one of the nation’s foremost platforms for bridging differences and fostering innovation.
In his free time Angel is training for a marathon, enjoys going to standup comedy shows, and loves writing letters to friends.
