About AnthonyDiep
Anthony “Antho” Diep Rosas is a dual-degree-seeking medical student at the University of California, San Fransisco School of Medicine in the Program in Medical Education for the Urban Underserved (PRIME-US). Antho is a first-generation college graduate from Kalamazoo College who roots from the working-class, urban neighborhood of Compton-Willowbrook in South Central Los Angeles, California. Anthony was a Posse Scholar and US Gilman Scholar and was recently selected as a Samvid Scholar. Anthony has led community-based research projects in the US and abroad, where he helped advance community-informed policies that promote health equity. In addition, he has studied healthcare systems in Thailand, Japan, and Costa Rica, where he was inspired by each country’s emphasis on preventative and public health. Anthony believes that healthcare reform must centered on building community-led healthcare systems with strong primary and preventative care. Now, Anthony is co-operating a community-based free clinic in the Mission District, a working class, predominately Latinx community in San Francisco, and is co-leading quality improvement projects to promote comprehensive primary care for local peoples. In addition, he co-founded the Coalition for Border Health with the Refugee Health Alliance where he has helped built a regional network of partners to provide healthcare at the Tijuana/San Diego border. Antho is also an aspiring educator in medicine: for the past years, he has helped develop social justice curricula for the Harbor-UCLA Department of Family Medicine’s Summer Urban Health Fellowship and is currently a student representative with the Anti-Oppression Curriculum Initiative at UCSF where he is working with pioneering health equity educators to incorporate anti-oppression praxis frameworks into the UCSF medical school curriculum. In his leisure, Antho raps, performs Chinese Lion Dancing, plays sports, spends time with his spouse, and enjoys fostering new friendships and “homes” around the world.
