About Charles

Charles Welborn, MD, MS, MPH&TM, FAAP, FACEP, is currently a surveyor for The Joint Commission International. He received his medical degree and completed his Pediatric Residency at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He earned a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Tulane and a Master of Science in Healthcare Management from New York University, and is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Past work assignments include: Chief of Pediatric Emergency Services and Associate Director of Pediatrics at Harlem Hospital Center in New York City; Director of Medical Operations at After Hours Pediatrics – a group of 12 pediatric urgent care facilities in Florida; and Division Chief of Emergency Medicine at Sidra Medicine in Doha, Qatar – where he assisted in the commissioning of a new hospital for women and children.
Charlie’s passion is travel – lucky enough to have visited all seven continents. He is currently anxious for travel restrictions to lift so he can start exploring again!
Charlie was a Luce Scholar in Kuantan, Malaysia, in 1980-81, working for Malaysia Red Crescent Society’s Medical Team at the Cherating Muslim Kampuchean Refugee Center.
