Kalvin Moschkau

Class of 2025-2026

About Kalvin

Kalvin is an engineer and international development practitioner whose work lies at the intersection of economic development, conservation, and sustainable agriculture. Passionate about the environment, he is particularly interested in how traditional ecological knowledge can provide innovative solutions to sustainability and biodiversity conservation in development programs worldwide. After earning his B.S. in Computer Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin, Kalvin broadened his focus with a Masters in Development Practice from the University of Minnesota, where he specialized in Natural Resources Management.

With support from the Judd International Program Development Fund, Kalvin worked alongside a Mongolian urban development NGO to establish a sustainable, community-based tourism program in Ulaanbaatar’s ger districts. This experience solidified his belief in the efficacy of participatory development approaches and the importance of preserving cultural heritage while pursuing economic growth. His graduate work culminated in a partnership with the Rainforest Alliance, where he worked with rural fruit cooperatives to develop improvements to fruit value chains to the United States. As president of the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on International Development student organization, Kalvin brought together students and faculty from across the school system through inter-faith and development-oriented events.

Most recently, Kalvin spent a year in Antarctica operating the IceCube Neutrino Telescope, earning an Antarctic Service Medal for his time wintering over at the South Pole. Looking ahead, he is excited to leverage his engineering expertise, systems-thinking perspectives, and interdisciplinary approaches to create more resilient and culturally responsive development initiatives. When not working, you can find Kalvin nurturing his passions through reading, studying the Russian language, and the occasional cross-country motorcycle trip.
