Kian Thomas

Class of 2025-2026

About Kian

Kian Thomas is a first-generation Iranian American originally from Gainesville, Florida. Graduating from the University of Florida in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, he has been lucky enough to have called Boston, New York City, and now Washington, DC, home. A deep commitment to global engagement and public service has driven Kian’s academic and professional journey.

In 2019, Kian had the opportunity to participate in the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program, where he completed intensive language courses, lived part-time with a host family in Okayama, Japan, and became familiar with their daily lives and the local community. During CLS, he helped co-lead a panel discussion on how student exchange programs can strengthen international relations and advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. This experience solidified his passion for fostering global understanding and bridging cultural divides.

His successive roles include impactful work with the United Nations Foundation and the Democratic National Committee, where he gained hands-on experience in the nonprofit and political sectors. Kian now works full-time as a legislative staffer in the US House of Representatives, working on policy initiatives that reflect the needs of the American public with a specific focus on his home state of Florida. He aspires to amplify diverse perspectives in government and foreign policy, advocating for actions that embrace global cooperation and inclusivity.

Outside work, Kian loves exploring DC on runs, singing karaoke favorites with friends, and learning languages. A firm believer in the power of citizen diplomacy, he enjoys sharing his Persian heritage through cooking and using food as a way to connect with others and build bridges across cultures.
