About Lama
Lama is a researcher and technology professional interested in the governance of technology and making technology safer and fairer for our world, especially for those who are disproportionately impacted by it. She currently works at OpenAI on the Policy Research team, researching issues of access and the social impact of Artificial Intelligence. Before this, Lama worked on the Facebook Open Research & Transparency team focused on the societal impact of Facebook and Instagram, especially related to elections and democracy. During her Luce year, Lama was at the UN Pulse Lab Jakarta studying the ethics of data driven technologies in Indonesia and Southeast Asia with a human centered design approach. Lama is an alumna of NYU Abu Dhabi, and holds a degree in Social Research and Public Policy and a minor in Interactive Media and Technology. She is a proud Lebanese Muslim American from Dearborn, MI. She’s a passionate advocate for equitable opportunities for women and underrepresented people in STEM, and an interdisciplinary and inclusive approach to the development of technology.
