About Michał

Michał Matejczuk is a second-year Ph.D. student in Food Science and Technology at Cornell University in the Worobo Lab. He is involved in the collaboration between Purdue University and Cornell University in the Food Safety Innovation Lab (FSIL) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) whose mission is to reduce the burden of foodborne illness and break the cycle of disease, malnutrition, and food insecurity across our world. Michał serves as the Founder and Executive Director for The Ichupa Upcycle Project (@theichupaproject) — a community-based organization and social enterprise inspired by the U.S. Peace Corps and World Wildlife Fund to promote the next revolution of environmental conservation through plastic upcycling across Eastern Uganda which has resulted in 50+ rainwater catchment tanks built with 500,000+ liters of water-holding capacity 175,000+ plastic bottles removed/upcycled and 55+ apprentices trained. Born in Białystok Poland Michał received his MPS in Global Development (International Agriculture and Rural Development) at Cornell University and a Bachelor in Business Administration from the Culinary Institute of America. He is also a recent Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Uganda), U.S. Fulbright Research Finalist (India), Henry R. Luce Scholar (India), FLAS Fellow, and a James Beard National Scholar.
