About Phillip
(updated 2/2019) In May 2018 Phillip McGloin graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Economics and Political Science and minors in Finance and Chinese. Born in Washington DC to a white dad and a black mom, helearned from a young age about the racial and cultural differences that divide the world. Through his experience growing up, Phil came to love sports and believe in the power they have to break down some of those barriers. Philachieved oneofhis major athletic goals by walking-on tomen’s basketball team at Vanderbilt University. During his time as a student-athlete, Phillip made it to the NCAA tournament, was recognized as a Vice Chancellor’s scholar athlete, named a member of the SEC Honor Roll, and made the Dean’s List. While committing 11 months per year to a high-major Division I basketball program,he maintained an interest in learning China’s language and culture. During his junior year, Phillip interned in Taiwan for Geber Brand Consulting. As a 2018-2019 Luce Scholar, Philhas been able to combinedhis passion for sports and his interest in Asia into a placement with Anta Sports Products Limited in Xiamen, China, where he is responsible for athlete services for NBA players on the Lakers, Warriors, and Celtics amongst other responsibilities. Phil continues to believe in the power of sports and is increasingly intrigued by working in China. In his free time he loves playing basketball, reading on his new kindle, and finding new brunch spots.
